Welcome back to my blog!

Today’s post is all about my first impressions on this foundation:

Maybelline’s Matte & Poreless FIT Me Liquid Foundation – £5.99 (30ml)

If I am completely honest I bought this foundation on a bit of a whim. Foundation is probably the make-up item that I buy the most…I love trying out new types, brands or finishes.

The foundation states that is matifies and refines pores with blurring micro-powders for poreless looking skin. It also claims that it matches skin tone and texture and has a natural seamless finish.

The product itself is 30ml and I bought the shade 220 ‘natural beige’.

Firstly, the colour match was pretty much spot on for me. It does claim to match any skin tone and texture and I would say that I had no problems with the colour compared to my complexion.  With regards matching my skin texture, I had absolutely no problems with it, but I don’t suffer with dry skin as such. The finish of the foundation is matte, so I wouldn’t recommend going for this unless you have combination, normal or oily skin. I think it would definitely ‘cling’ to any dry patches because of the finish of the foundation.

The actual consistency of the foundation is quite thin compared to foundations I am used to. If you know your foundations, I would say it has more of a consistency comparable to Bourjois Healthy Mix rather than say, Estee Lauder Double Wear or Seventeen Stay Time. However, because of this, it was very easy to blend into the skin. It literally took minutes to achieve an even finish. I was a bit worried about it because I did think that it’s matte finish would result in it being difficult to blend…it was the complete opposite.

The finish of the foundation itself is, as it suggests matte. However, compared to other mattifying foundations I have tried, I would say it is more of a soft matte. What I mean by this is that it doesn’t leave you with a completely ‘flat’ finish. I would also say that the coverage is medium, although easily buildable to full. This is exactly the type of finish I look for in an everyday foundation. Something easy to blend, medium coverage and mattifying.

Obviously, one of the biggest claims of this foundation is that it creates a ‘poreless’ finish. I have to be honest, I am usually sceptical about something like this! I suffer with quite large pores around my nose area, so I am always on the look out for any pore minimising primers, creams or foundations. This didn’t disappoint! I could see a really big difference around my nose area and I was extremely impressed with the finish it provided.

The longevity of this foundation was definitely a downfall for me. Like most standard foundations, I did find that within a few hours I had to top up in some (but not all!) areas. This included my chin area and around my nose. This wouldn’t stop me from repurchasing the foundation as, like I said, I tend to find this with most foundations I use. However, if it is a quality you are looking for in a foundation, this may not be the one that you should go for.

All in all, a great foundation. It basically does exactly what it claims to; it provides a matte and pore minimising base. It’s longevity does let it down…although it doesn’t boast this as a benefit in the first place! At present, it has made its way into my day time make-up bag…and I think it will be a well loved product of mine. Thanks for reading!
